Breguet Guilloché in 18K Yellow Gold Cushion-Shaped Dress Watch Cal. 839 “Classique”
The Inside Story
When it comes to figures who have significantly shaped the evolution of watchmaking, few have had as much influence as Breguet. From pioneering automatic winding mechanisms to the invention of the tourbillon itself, Breguet left an enduring legacy. His namesake brand remains one of the oldest still in existence, carrying a rich heritage that dates back to 1775.
One of the hallmarks of Breguet’s craftsmanship is their signature engine-turned and hand-finished guilloché dials—each individually numbered and meticulously crafted. The attention to detail is unparalleled, often surpassing that of watches costing multiple times more!
Here, we have a stunning cushion-shaped 18K yellow gold dress watch featuring Breguet's signature coin-edge case design, measuring 30 x 30mm. The case is in excellent condition, and we believe the winding crown was replaced during a past service.
The typical blued Breguet hands beautifully contrast the intricate dial, which features a silver-brushed outer rim, black-painted Roman numerals, a "dot-dot" minute track, and a guilloché inner section framing the Breguet logo—often referred to as a cartouche. The watch is paired with the strap shown in the images, complete with an 18K yellow gold pin buckle.
At its heart beats the ultra-thin Breguet Caliber 839, a hand-wound movement that has been fully serviced by our watchmaker.
During the quartz crisis of the 1970s, Breguet maintained its commitment to hand-finishing and traditional craftsmanship, unlike many Swiss watchmakers who opted for cost-cutting measures. As a result, production numbers for Breguet’s mechanical watches remained exceptionally low, making them rare and, in our opinion, still undervalued today.
